Message As far as I know the place most commonly used for getting the PTU off the timing belt cover is under the front panel and on the frame member next to the DS headlight. Here's an example of that with the PTU circled in yellow:

While this location certainly gets the PTU away from the engine into a cooler space, I never found having the PTU conspicuously hanging out in space very appealing. Looking around in the same general area I found another spot which, while still leaving the PTU suspended, tucks it out of sight when the front panel is off.

This mounting spot uses a threaded hole at the end of the same frame member the PTU is on in the first pic. It is ordinarily used to attach a rubber bumper between the front bumper and frame This rubber bumper is about 1 inch in diameter and 5/8 inch thick. I just removed the bolt and bumper, inserted the bolt into one of the holes in the PTU (after PTU mounting plate was removed) and screwed the bolt back in its original spot only from the radiator side.

To hold the majority of the bundled PTU wires, I fabbed a clamp out of part of a hose clamp (seen in lower left corner of the preceding pic). This clamp was held in place with a bolt in the black bracket that attaches the bumper to the frame. After going through that clamp, the wires loop around the black bracket and then connect to the PTU.

The downside to my location is that it makes disconnecting the PTU much more difficult, at least when compared to the mounting spot immediately under the front panel. Removal of the front splash guard would probably be required. If the PTU was an item requiring regular service, my location would definitely be an undesireable one. But since PTUs rarely if ever need replacement, it's one worth considering IMO.
